Show & Tell - Historic Artefacts Handling Evening - 19th December 2006

As part of the Shaping the Future project, The Northamptonshire Black History Association is working with the Northampton Borough Council Museum Service to look at its ethnographic collection with the aim of integrating Black history with the interpretation available at the museums.

The Museum service has objects from around the world, dating back to the 18th & 19th century. Unfortunately the interpretation of these objects is often flawed and is based on 18th / 19th century views of the world which is unhelpful now in the 21st century. The Association hopes to change that with the help of a professional ethnographer but want to ensure that local groups and individuals are also involved.

On Tuesday 19th December 2006 we hosted a SHOW & TELL evening to look at objects from the Museums ethnographic collection. Museum staff introduced some objects and invited the audience to tell stories of their usage and cultural significance.
