In its 2004/05 Annual Report for History, the QCA recognised the importance of Black British History within the school curriculum. The need for new resources in this area was also supported by research produced by Northamptonshire Black History Project and the University of Northampton in 2005. A copy of the research report can be downloaded from this website.
Shaping the Future NBHA aims to develop and promote educational resource packs linked to the National Curriculum responding to the identified need. The packs will be developed with specialist teachers and will be used by teachers in primary and secondary schools, so they include Black British History in children’s learning.
The first pack, Walter Tull: Sport, War and Challenging Adversity, should be available by the start of the Autumn term 2007. This title will contain three packs for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3.
The second title that is currently being developed is from Slavery to Emancipation, this pack will be for Key Stage 3.
Other titles will be developed later in the year. |
